Alex - April 2020

This season has been trying in many ways. One of the difficulties is the speed at which things change requiring a shift in our response, the crafting of some new policy, yet another temporary alteration in our procedures. In the midst of this rapidly changing environment, I am thankful for the truth of Hebrews 13:8: "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." God's policies are also unchanging. If we close our ear to the cry of the poor, we will not be heard but when we extend ourselves to the poor, He hears our call. (Pr. 21:13, Is. 58:9) Now is certainly the time we want God to hear our call, so we’re listening and responding to people like Alex. Alex is our first guest in our new respite unit. Diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease, he was referred to us by Mercy Hospital in need of extended rest while he finishes his recovery.

"I became homeless in 2019, and then I got sick and landed in the hospital. I'm glad they were able to find the cause of my illness, but then it was time to discharge, and I didn't know where I would go. I was laying in that hospital bed, praying for God to help me, and I didn't even know this Respite Shelter existed.

I'm so thankful for this place. I'm getting the rest I need, and the people here are so encouraging. It's not only helped me regain strength in my body, but it's strengthened my faith, too."

Thank you for your continued support. Much is changing, but our mission remains the same and our efforts are only increasing. Your continued partnership is vital for us to press onward in meeting the need of folks like Alex!
