There's a peculiar list of works in 2 Peter 1:5-7 that we are to add to our faith. The first is that of moral goodness or moral excellence. Some versions read "add to your faith, virtue." The greatest virtue is love, often translated as charity. I am thankful to be working with a team so driven to add this to their faith every day. More than just believers or hearers, they're doers.
It is that commitment to love in action that has provided a lifeline of hope to so many, including Ariana. Her exposure to drugs and alcohol at age 14, a high school pregnancy, and periodic homelessness, including sleeping in her car, left her hopeless. Then she came to our family shelter, Washington Family Hope Center. Life for her and her two kids has done a 180.
“This place is perfectly named, because when I came to Washington Family Hope Center, I felt hope for the first time in a long time. At that point, I was just done with life. But here it’s Christian-based, they love you, and they help you stay sober, teaching you how to have a healthy routine. I know God has a plan for me, and so far I’ve just been trying to follow Him. I’ve noticed every time I rushed things or have done things on my own timeline, it just doesn’t go well. Now I’m back in school studying to be a surgical tech, and for years I thought this dream was gone.”
"Perfectly named." That's because we believe every person struggling in poverty or homelessness needs hope for a brighter future. It’s what moms and kids are finding at Washington Family Hope Center and the other ministries of Watered Gardens. Thank you for your recent support. You're empowering people to love well, and it's changing lives.
