Darrel found a new family at New Covenant Church after their Life Support team engaged him on the streets and then built an ongoing relationship with him while he earned what he needed through their Dignity Exchange Program.
The idea may sound familiar. We call our program the Worth Shop, but in Wichita, KS, New Covenant Church calls theirs the Dignity Exchange Program. Here's what one leader at the church had to say:
"Darrel's transformation is an ongoing result of the regular practice at the Life Support Center. While we seek to meet basic food and clothing needs of our homeless and underserved guests, we also seek to discover opportunities to offer a Hand Up through additional assistance and support to those people who are willing to work with us and help themselves."
Why would we be sharing the testimony of another organization? Because it was our mission that inspired them. More specifically, it's the work of our True Charity Initiative now serving more than 235 churches and nonprofits across 32 states with the tools and training needed to transform their charitable practices.
Darrel came to faith in Christ, was baptized, lived with a member of the church until he got a job and finally a place of his own. He is one of more than 800,000 people being helped through our True Charity Network of churches and nonprofits. Thank you for your recent support. We're on a mission to transform the way charity is practiced both in Joplin and across the U.S., and I'm thankful for your partnership.
