Nick Wages - September 2025

Poverty and homelessness are complex issues because every uniquely-made person lives a complex life with distinctly different histories. For some, those histories are full of neglect, abuse, and trauma. Others have pasts full of mistakes and unrelenting regret. For most, it’s a combination of those things that results in deep poverty or homelessness.

It’s complex and although the pathway out of poverty is very individualistic, there is one common thread—a job. No one escapes poverty without a job. This is why we dedicate a tremendous amount of energy in helping people get to work. Nick is benefitting. He’s currently a guest at our men’s shelter and recently landed a job… 6 miles away. Our e-bike program was a perfect fit to help him “down the road” to his savings goal and, eventually, his own place to live.

“There are so many people here who have already ‘been down that road’ and have helped me. I’ve messed up so much in my life, and there are people here who have seen me at my best and at my worst. And they have loved me the same throughout. But this place doesn’t help you unless you submit. As I’ve rededicated my life to God, Watered Gardens has given me the structure to get myself back on the right track. But you have to want it. If you get in here and you want to change, these people give you the space, the atmosphere, and the path to see it happen.”

Thank you for your support. Nick is motivated and we’re committed to walk alongside him as he journeys out of homelessness like so many we encounter who take advantage of the opportunities we offer. Your partnership is empowering people to escape poverty to live the prosperous and flourishing life God intends.
