Stephanie - January 2019

My dad’s a cattleman. When he first bought his land, it cost less than $1000 per acre. The value has certainly doubled since then. But consider taking one acre of that property and transplanting it to the corner of Range Line Rd and Interstate 44. Its value would skyrocket in comparison. Why? Because the value of property is dependent on its potential. Although the value of property can change, the inherent value of a person is constant. To recognize it, though, we must look beyond the classification of “poor.” When Stephanie first came into Watered Gardens, we could have just seen a lost drug addict. Instead, we saw potential.

"When I came into Watered Gardens, I was struggling with a drug addiction and didn’t know where else to turn. The people I met here were the first who really took time to listen to me, and it was here where I learned to pray.

Now, after being clean and sober for several years, I continue to come back to work in the Worth Shop, which gives me the opportunity to earn what I need. This was especially true last summer when a fire burned my house to the ground. I have been able to earn food, clothing and household items to help restore some of what was lost. And my spirit is uplifted every time I am here.”

We valued Stephanie and it changed her life. Thank you for your support last month and for helping us help others reach their potential.
