Virginia Ryan - August 2022

Last month, I shared the amazing testimony of David Gilmore and the incredible impact one volunteer had on his life. This month, I want to share that volunteer with you. Five years ago, Virginia walked through our doors searching for a renewed sense of purpose. She found it. After volunteering in a few different spots at Watered Gardens, she landed on our Care Coordination team meeting with our sheltered guests one-on-one to set goals, encourage, and pray with them. Virginia loves it and understands the vital importance of developing relationships with those struggling in homelessness.

“This is my happy place. Sometimes I don’t like going home; I love it that much. It’s like my second church. I have great relationships with so many of our guests, staff, and volunteers—a real sense of belonging.”

“Our guests are hungry for someone to show real interest in them. I wish more people understood that we can’t help from a distance. We can judge, or ignore, or even give money from a distance, but to really make a difference, we have to get close.”

I thank God for volunteers like Virginia. Her commitment and compassion remind me of those words Isaiah prophesied, “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news!” Your support has helped ensure there’s a place for her to serve, love and share that good news with so many who need it. Thank you!
